Metalier Coatings
at Sugar Club, Auckland

The Sugar Club 1930s Art Deco Italy on the 53rd level of Sky Tower in Auckland is the 4th incarnation of this restaurant.

Its decor evokes 1930s Art Deco Italy and is inspired by the film “I am love”. Metalier’s brass coatings are a strong feature element in the decor.

Metalier brass is used on the entrance door – applied to a steel substrate

and throughout the restaurant and the private dining room – applied to MDF

on shelving and in the porthole windows in the bathrooms – applied on wood

The Sugar Club is a showcase dream for Metalier.

First – there are so many different substrates – wood, steel and MDF.

Second – there are so many different finishes. The substrate affects the look of the Metalier metals. On MDF the polished brass is moody and dark; on wood it is brighter and on steel it is the brightest of all. Look at those entrance doors – the handles are sheet brass and the door itself is Metalier’s brass coating. You cannot tell where the two begin and end.

Third – there are so many different shapes – flat pieces for the walls in the dining room and the doors in the bar, small chunky pieces in the shelves, intricate detailing on the entrance door, many surfaces on the aluminium bar, and finally curves in the bathroom portholes.

And for us the ultimate accolade, Peter Gordon himself loves it.
What more could we ask for?
